Practicing

I have been very busy lately with auditions in a few weeks for my youth orchestra summer coming to an end and one summer camp left before I begin high school at the end of August. I also just got a piano which I have been self teaching myself when I am not playing the violin. Speaking of violin I am actually playing Allegretto by Mozart and Gigue by Dall Abaco instead of Csárdás at my intensive practice camp. For my youth orchestra seating audition I have to play an excerpt from Night on Bald Mountain by Mussorgsky. I am a Lao auditioning fora honors Chamber string quartet and I am going to play prelude and corrente from Bachs cello suite no 1. As you already know I am auditioning for senior districts so I have to also continue learning Csárdás.

Taylor Swift’s 1989 concert

Sorry I didn’t write in a while. This is going to be how about how I felt about Taylor Swift’s 1989 world tour.

Last Saturday night I was at Gillete stadium staring down at the stage anxiously waiting for the main act of the night Taylor Swift to perform. Before she performs songs from her album and many more, Shawn Mendes, Vance Joy, and Haim opened up the night. I did not now what was happening or each song she was performing when she was until she performed it. There were no programs to tell you when each song is. Everything sounded amazing there were speakers everywhere and three jumbotrons. When we got to the stadium we got wristbands that lit up when Taylor wanted to. It was really cool. She had so many costume changes. I loved every single one of her outfits. She also played different instruments. She played a keyboard and her guitar and sang. At the end of the concert there were fireworks and we couldn’t even see anything. I loved that concert so much.

Practicing for districts

Csárdás is a hard piece to learn and play. I am having lots of troubles with it so far. I really don’t like doing harmonics and regular notes at the same time and there is a whole section like that but it is so pretty sounding. There also is a section with lots of double stops and one all in fifth position on the g string. Also Csárdás goes really fast. Even though it doesn’t sound like it I really like that piece.

WCMS summer camp session 2 day 1 and 2

Day 1

Day 1 went well. In my first song the Brandenburg concerto I was flexible and switched parts so I play the oboe solo part instead of violin 2 ripieno. It is harder but I am always up to a challenge. I love baroque music so I really enjoy playing the Brandenburg. My other piece my Mozart quartet. This piece is fun. I really like this piece but it’s tough for me to keep the tempo steady but I can do it. I practiced so hard during my practice period and when I got home.

Day 2

Day 2 went way better than the first day. I played the Brandenburg way better than day 1. I got the fast parts clean sounding. I need to still work hard on dynamics and the bowings. In the Mozart I’m doing better on timing but I still need to work hard. Tonight is bowling so I have to practice tomorrow morning.

WCMS Summer Camp

Summer camp is so fun. I love it. All of my coaches are great. My songs are sounding really good. Monday was our first day of session 1. Tuesday we went candlepin bowling for a field trip. It was so fun. Wednesday my songs were coming along so well. I couldn’t wait to perform them. My favorite piece I was going to perform was …and stars will appear by Roger Zahab. That is a quartet I’m performing. (For more information on Roger Zahab go to www.rogerzahab.net also on his website you can go to calendar and find July 10 and it will say that my group that performed …and stars will appear at Razo Hall.) I love that piece so much. It is a more modern style piece. The other piece I performed was a Corelli concerto. That piece is longer and is a larger group. We are also doing African drumming with Croccodile River music. It is a really fun way to work on rhythm. There are three types of drums we are using the djun djun, the djembe, and the caxixi we also are singing an African song. Wednesday we had a surprise frozen yogurt from woo berry. It was so good. Thursday we perfected all of our pieces for our concert on Friday.  Friday was our concert. We all sounded amazing. I felt like I performed 100%. Friday we had shorter periods to run through our pieces then we had dress rehearsals with our groups at Razzo then the concert at 3:00. Everyone sounded great at the concert. I couldn’t even believe how much progress we all have made in just five days.

I will be posting the video of …and stars will appear later.

Until next time… Angelina

July 4 continued

This is the banner that opened up the parade.

This was so cool to see. Scottish bagpipes are one of my many favorite instruments to listen to. They wer very good players. I loved there kilts too.

This was a group of really talented brass players. They were very well.

I was so amazed when I saw this float I never knew how talented accordion players are. They made it look so easy to play even though the instrument itself looks so complex. I was staring in awe when I heard them playing.

I  love horses and I wish I could have one. They were so cute. There was one horse that was looking at me and I wanted to keep it as a pet.

Even though this isn’t music related it was so cool. They were unicyclist. They were doing tricks that I can’t even do on the ground.

I just had to upload this photo because there wasn’t just one accordion group but two.

This was my favorite of the many marching bands. They were so good. I have no clue how they can play and march at the same time.

Practicing for WCMS Camp Cont…..

I am so excited for Monday. Monday is my first day at camp. It is going to be so fun. I have been practicing very hard and I am so ready for camp. I know practice makes better but I think I am pretty close to perfect on my own part. I have nailed my parts with the metronome but when I play with the group we all have to be in sink otherwise the whole piece is messed up.

My Eigth Grade Graduation Ceremony

On June 19, 2015 I graduated middle school. When I got there for graduation I got my honor cord for being in the National Junior Honors Society, which to qualify your grades have to average a 90% or higher in both seventh and eighth grade, my average was higher!

My school orchestra played Alexander’s Rag Time Band composed by Irving Berlin. That particularly was not my favorite piece I have performed but, it was not the worst. There were definitely many things that showcased how talented we all are. Those things include shifting to fourth position, swinging the eighth notes, and tempo changes.

The school band performed a piece too. I enjoyed their performance very much. They had used the dynamic markings very well. I could tell they spent a long time perfecting the song.

Our school chorus performed the piece For Good from the musical Wicked. The soloist did a wonderful job. It was definitely a great song choice for a graduation.

I am so excited I graduated! I can’t wait for my summer camps to begin. I also can’t wait to start high school orchestra and for my youth orchestras to start up again.

Until next time….Angelina
