New Years

Happy New Years everyone. Last night I performed at first night Worcester with worcester youth orchestra. We sounded great. After the concert I was asked to become a member of the baroque orchestra. The baroque orchestra meets on Tuesday nights and is for elite members of the orchestra. Also in the baroque orchestra I would be a first violin. The bad thing is that Clark sinfonia also meets on Tuesday nights so I am either going to have to choose or practice the Clark music on my own.

I just wanted to let you guys know that there was an article in the newspaper about Worcester Youth Orchestra. Here is a link to the article and I hope you enjoy http://m.telegram.com/article/20151226/NEWS/151229367

Since last time

Hi again I have been uploading all my videos from all concerts on my favorite freshman year recordings page. You also can find all my videos on YouTube when you search pinkpagannini or under my mom’s channel jamhoward1. Hopefully you enjoy all the music I performed as much as I did making it.
On Monday I had a lesson at my teacher’s Peter Sulski’s house and we went out to lunch after. My lesson was fun. We worked on rotating through my books which I enjoy working on.
On Tuesday I had a lesson with my practice buddy Miranda. We worked on an elude and concerto in a minor by Bach.

Back to posting

Sorry I haven’t been able to post in a long time. I have been super busy. I had district auditions, hearings for WYSO, finals, school volunteer concerts, WYO holiday concert, and the holidays.
Right before district auditions my violin broke and had to get fixed so we drove to Johnson strings to rent a violin. I picked out a really nice violin. It sounds just as good as my violin.
District auditions went great. It was so fun seeing and meeting lots of high school violinists and other string players that are very talented. It was a great experience that I auditioned. I didn’t get in but at least I tried. I was so proud of how I played and that’s all that matters. Next year hopefully when I audition I improve a lot and even get in. But until then I have to keep on practicing.
Right after districts my mom got an email from the  conductor of WYSO. He called hearings for all the violins. We had to prepare an excerpt from Mahler’s symphony No.1 and  Wagner’s Ride of the Valkeries. Both pieces are really fast with lots of shifting into different positions. I was so prepared for the hearing and so proud of myself I really thought I moved up to first. Jonathan told my mom in an email that I improved leaps and bounds. I was so thrilled. My mom got an email from Jonathan and I found out that I am still in the second violin section. I have no clue where I sit now but I hope I moved up. I might find out my seat on Saturday when we have sectionals. Until then I am hoping for the best.
Right before Thanksgiving break I had my first set of finals and projects. It was so stressful and I was so glad they were over after I came back from break. I had a huge paper in English that I had to write, a big project in math on marketing tents, I had to build a car out of paper, paperclips and elastic bands in intro to physical science, and math finals. I am in a new trimester right now and I love all my classes and teachers. For school orchestra we had a concert at the end of the trimester which went very well. Right now in orchestra we are working in chamber groups which is very fun and I enjoy it very much.
My school orchestra teacher selected a few kids to perform two concerts and I was one he selected. We performed a Schubert mass one night and another night we performed Christmas cantatas at a local church. Both concerts sounded great.
The WYO family holiday concert was spectacular. Every group that performed sounded wonderful. The concert was so long. I love the Worcester Youth family and I am so glad that I take part in this amazing orchestra and I can’t wait to see everyone during sectionals.
The holidays this year were the best when I woke up Christmas morning there were so many presents underneath the Christmas tree. I got everything I wanted and more. I got new rising and a lot of vintage violin music.  I hope everyone had a nice holiday season and Happy New Year.
Until later,

Neighborhood Strings

On Friday I had my neighborhood strings concert. It was so fun. The kids sounded great. I have had lots of fun working with all of them after school on Fridays and some at the café afterwards for NS club. NS club is where the older kids in the group go to the café and play chamber music. I can’t wait until I see them next time to see how they liked the concert. I will post the videos of the concert in a separate post.

Until next time… Angelina

This week was amazing

As you guys know I joined cross country we had our first meet Tuesday🏃 against Naragansat and we won🏆I got 34th place.

On Friday I had my first neighborhood strings rehearsal. It was so fun working with all the kids and being a good role model for all the kids to look up too.

After WYO orchestra today I went to the BigE with my family. It was so fun. I got an airbrushed sweatshirt and it is so cool.

I have had a wonderful week and hope you did too. Have a good Sunday.

First WYSO rehearsal

It was so nice to see all of my old friends in the orchestra again after the long Summer. I’m so excited to start off the season right by my seat moving up one and all really fun repituaur. We are playing lord of the rings, Star Wars, ride of the Valykries, and Night on Bald Mountain. Our concert is going to be on Halloween and we get to wear our costumes for a contest. I still don’t know what I want to be but it is going to be awesome. My favorite song is either ride of the Valykries by Wagner or lord of the ring fellowship of the ring symphonic suite.

Worcester Youth Orchestra

I had seating auditions on August 27 and I played an excerpt and the g major 3-octave scale and arpeggio and the a minor 3 octave scale and arpeggio. I was ready to play 7 arpeggios but he only wanted one.  For the honors chamber audition I played the Bach prelude and corrente and nailed it but I didn’t get chosen for the honors group. I am going to have my mom record me playing the Bach piece so you can hear it.  I have attached my essay I had sent for the Honors position, I put a lot of work into it, plus I had my private teacher and my math teacher send a reference, oh well it was a good experience. As far as the seating audition, I know I am a second again (which sort of bummed me out) but  still don’t know where I sitso I am hoping I at least have a better seat.  We shall see.  Tomorrow is my first practice with the orchestra and I am so excited to see my seat and my friends.  Hopefully my hard work paid off, if not I will keep practicing.  Enjoy my essay! I will try to post my Bach piece later.
How music impacts my life

Music impacts my life in many ways. Music helps me get through stressful situations, make friendships that are going to last a lifetime, and gain a lot of self- confidence.
One way music impacts my life is that it helps me get through stressful situations. In fifth grade I was bullied. Kids in my class took my pencils, hid my belongings, called me names, and didn’t want to play with me. They definitely didn’t make me feel 100% but my violin did. I dealt with bullying by picking up my violin and playing different pieces, easy and hard, soft and loud, and pretty and bold. When I picked up my violin it was like I was disappearing into another world, a world where I could be myself. I could journey to anywhere at any time I wanted to through music. I could live in my favorite Disney fairytales and movies by playing pieces from the movies. I could also journey back in time and play the Jurassic Park theme song or be a witch in training like Hermione Granger from Harry Potter while playing Hedwig’s Theme. I also played classical pieces like Beethoven’s Ode to Joy and many others. Music also helped me with stress from school. When I got home from a long tiring day at school I could just play my violin and it felt like I just woke up from hibernation. Music also is a coping method for me I can just play my violin and express how I am feeling through music. My violin will always be there when I need it most.
Another way music has impacted my life is that I made friendships that are going to last a lifetime. At school I learned that friends don’t always stay. Even someone who you think is you best friend can turn on you. The first year I attended Worcester Chamber Music Society’s summer festival I made two wonderful friends; Elizabeth and Anna. I’m in Worcester Youth Orchestra and Worcester’s Symphonic Project with Elizabeth. I still keep in touch with Anna but, I saw her this summer at WCMS’s summer festival concert where she gave me a humungous hug and remembered me 2 years later. That’s a good friend. One of my best friends Liam and I met at camp last summer and now are in Clark University’s’ Sinfonia and Worcester’s Symphonic Project together. This summer people at camp asked me and him if we were brother and sister or go to the same school because we are so close. We both said no, that we met here at camp last year. I also keep in touch with people who live in Pennsylvania throughout the year where I attended Pittsburgh Youth Philharmonic Orchestra summer camp. Music friends are also way more welcoming than school friends. Last year was my first year participating in Worcester Youth Orchestra and I was welcomed by Ilana and Shreya. They are so nice and we have been able to stay in contact during the summer. At school if you are the new kid you don’t always feel welcomed but when you have something in common with someone, like music, or if they are friendly you feel like you have always been their friends. I know I can always depend on my music friends; I know they will always be there to support me and we will always make wonderful music filled memories together.
The final way music impacts my life is that it gives me self confidence. Before I played the violin I was very shy and probably didn’t think I could’ve gotten as far as I have. When I got my violin on my fifth birthday I considered it as a toy not something that I would end up wanting to do for the rest of my life. I took half hour private lessons for a year until I was six. Two years later I was participating in my school’s orchestra and a local orchestra and by sixth grade my dream was to go to Julliard majoring in violin. The summer of sixth grade I started taking music more seriously and got involved in different music summer camps, I got a new private lesson teacher, Peter Sulski. I have performed at many different locations, I have been on stage with large groups, small groups and alone and every time I just grow more confident in myself and my abilities. I still may get a little nervous, but I love being on stage. I love sharing beautiful music with people. Peter is helping me become a better musician but I know I have to continue to put my hard work and lots of effort in to achieve my goal to become the musician I strive to be. Music has given me so much self confidence that my freshman electives for high school are 3 terms of orchestra and I am trying to earn the award for most dedicated music student when I graduate high school in 2019.
Music impacts my life in so many ways. I can express myself through music to get through stressful situations, make friendships that will last a lifetime, and gain lots of self confidence to become an amazing musician. I know I will always continue to work hard to become a better musician, I know my music will be with me through everything and I know that participating in the honors chamber group will ensure that my violin will continue to impact my life in ways I never thought possible.

First Week of Clark Sinfonia

I had my first Clark Sinfonia practice today along with my first private lesson of the year.  Both went very well.  I found out at for Clark Sinfonia I am still going to be playing second violin but for the Symphonic Project I will be playing first violin. I am so excited, we are playing two pieces for the Symphonic Project we only got one song Beethovens first symphony which I am very excited to be performing.

School Orchestra

OK- I realized a post I wrote a few days ago failed to publish, so I published it today. I started school last week, I have been busy. I am a freshman. I am taking Spanish, Honors Math, Science, English and Orchestra this trimester. So far all is well. We are playing some great music in the orchestra this trimester like an excerpt from swan lake a waltz no 2 by Shostakovich Allegro from sinfonia no 6 in g minor and Czardas by monti. I love the fact that some songs I get to play with the first violins and some songs I play with the second violins. Both great experiences. I had an assignment last night in English, I had to write my reaction to the song Glory by John Legend ft Common just pretending I was writing a blog post on the song. I  am also running on the varsity cross country team. I definitely feel better and stronger while playing the violin.

Talk soon!
